2025 is shaping up to be a year of disruption. Law firms, marketers and legal industry communicators are wrestling with how to best position personal and firm reputations to ensure success and synchronicity with internal and external stakeholders. Our panel will look at our current media and marketing landscape, highlighting potential pitfalls, reviewing possible pivots and offering both short- and long-term outlooks.

Presenters:

Brenda Plowman is a proven leader and
executive with more than 25 years of experience in professional services
focused on legal, accounting and engineering. Brenda spent nearly two decades at
one of Canada’s largest law firms, managing a global team responsible for
global marketing and business development. She redefined the firm’s practice
and industry structure, spearheaded two major brand refreshes to develop a
compelling and distinctive brand positioning, and built its first-ever client
teams and service excellence program. Her team was responsible for driving
growth with over 50 practice, industry, and regional strategies which included
a comprehensive thought leadership program. She was President of the
International Legal Marketing Association in 2022, an organization with over
4000 members globally. In 2024 she launched a flower farm
(Floralies Estates Ltd.) and an advisory services consultancy (Plowman
Consulting Inc.), helping professional services firms and individual partners
improve their approach to client service, business development and growth
strategies, and brand development and repositioning. Brenda is a seasoned
speaker, facilitator and trainer.

Nancy Myrland entered legal marketing as the first-chair Director of Marketing for Baker & Daniels, now known as Faegre Drinker. As the President of Myrland Marketing & Social Media, Nancy is celebrating over 20 years in business as a Marketing & Business Development Advisor, specializing in content, social, and digital media. She helps lawyers integrate all marketing disciplines to grow their practices and their firms. Known as the LinkedIn Coach for Lawyers, Nancy is a frequent LinkedIn trainer, as well as a content, podcasting, personal branding, video, blogging, livestreaming, AI, and Zoom & virtual presentation trainer & coach. She also leads select firms through their online social and digital media communications strategy when dealing with high-stakes, visible cases. She is the host of The Myrland Marketing Minute Blog, as well as two podcasts, Legal Marketing Minutes and Legal Marketing Moments.

Gina Rubel is a trusted advisor to law firm leaders navigating high-stakes public relations, crisis planning, litigation communications, and incident response. A former litigator and the CEO and General Counsel of Furia Rubel Communications, Gina combines legal insight with strategic intuition to help law firms protect and elevate their reputations while achieving business goals. Gina is the author of Everyday Public Relations for Lawyers, now in its second edition, and a frequent speaker and writer on topics at the intersection of law, ethics, and communications. As co-host of the On Record PR podcast, she interviews general counsel, legal marketers, journalists, and C-suite executives about reputation management, leadership through change, the principles that guide effective communication in complex times, and communications strategies that drive law firm success.

Dave Poston (Moderator) is a licensed attorney who has held numerous
international in-house and agency positions for law and other professional
services firms. Dave leads Poston Communications’ Crisis Communications and
Litigation PR division, which has been recognized by Chambers as one of the top
20 firms in the U.S. in both its Litigation Support and Crisis & Risk
Management Guides, in addition to his personal band rankings in the same. He
has also earned recognition from a variety of prestigious organizations over
the course of his career, most notably being named the Public Relations
Professional of the Year by the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA).
Prior to founding Poston Communications, Dave managed firm-wide public
relations and marketing in various business development roles at King &
Spalding LLP, Dorsey & Whitney LLP and Jones & Askew LLP. He currently
serves on the Board of the Northeast Region of the Legal Marketing Association.
