Volunteer Leadership Pipeline

The first step in jump starting your LMA volunteer leadership journey or moving it to the next level starts with the Volunteer Leadership Pipeline. The Pipeline is LMA’s central database of each volunteer leader’s interests, experiences and demographics. This form stays open throughout the year, so feel free to submit your interest at any time. Local, Regional and International nominating Committees all utilize the Pipeline for current and prospective positions.

Current Volunteer Opportunities

NOW OPEN: Call for Leaders: 2027 LMA International Board of Directors - Deadline: April 15

 

We are excited to start the process of building our future 2027 LMA International Board of Directors. Our goal is to ensure we have a diverse Board of qualified volunteer leaders who are engaged and excited to lead our association. The six open Board positions include:

  • President-Elect (3-years: President-Elect in 2027, President in 2028, Immediate Past-President in 2029)
  • Treasurer-Elect/Secretary (2-years: Treasurer-Elect/Secretary in 2027, Treasurer in 2028)
  • Two At-Large Board Members (2-years: January 1, 2027 – December 31, 2028)
  • Regional Leaders Committee (“RLC”) Chair (1-year: January 1, 2027 – December 31, 2027)
  • Regional Leaders Committee (“RLC”) Chair-Elect (2-years: RLC-Elect in 2027; RLC Chair in 2028)

The deadline for submission is Wednesday, April 15, 2026. Please reference the role descriptions and the below eligibility criteria for additional details and information.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Membership Criteria
    • Must be a member of the Legal Marketing Association in good standing for at least one (1) year.
    • In addition, candidates must meet at least one Volunteer Leadership Experience criteria and at least one Volunteer Engagement Experience criteria as indicated below.
  • LMA Volunteer Leadership Experience

    Candidates must meet at least ONE of the following items under Leadership Experience prior to taking office. Candidates do not need to meet all three.

    • One year of service as president of a regional/ legacy chapter board
    • One year of service as chair/co-chair of a LMA international committee/task force/SIG
    • One year of service as chair/co-chair of an international or regional conference
  • LMA Volunteer Engagement Experience

    Candidates must meet at least ONE of the following items under Engagement Experience prior to taking office. Candidates do not need to meet all four.

    • One year of service on a regional/chapter board (separate of President role)
    • One year of service on a LMA international committee/task force/working group (separate of chair/co-chair role)
    • One year of service as a Local Steering Committee (LSC) chair
    • One year of service as a co-facilitator for one of LMA’s Member Resource Groups (MRGs)
  • Additional Notes
    • All former International Board of Directors are automatically eligible to submit for a board position.
    • Service for the eligibility criteria must be completed at time of nomination, and the same role of service cannot be used to cover multiple criteria.
    • Regional presidents who have completed (or will have completed) their full term (3 years: President-Elect, President, and Immediate Past-President) and are within five (5) years of that service are eligible to submit for the RLC Chair position.
    • Individuals may serve up to two consecutive two-year terms as Member-at-Large. After completing two terms, they must wait one year before being eligible to run again.
    • Leading the judging panel for an award program does not qualify as service criteria.
    • LMA Bylaws include the following which will be adhered to by the Nominating Committee: Consideration should be given to people that have not only shared various experiences within our LMA leadership pipeline, but also encourage diversity of age, race, religion, ethnicity, nationality, sexual orientation, gender identity and expression, body size, marital status, political affiliation, ability status, and educational backgrounds.

Regional Governing Boards and Local Steering Committees

The formal call for 2026 local leadership appointments has closed. Calls for Regional Governing Boards will open in Summer 2026, and calls for Local Steering Committees will open in Fall 2026.

Committees and Task Forces

The formal call for 2026 Committee and Task Force appointments has closed. Our next formal call for Committee and Task Force apppointments will open in November 2026.

It's never too early to indicate your interest for future involvement. If you are interested in serving in any capacity or would like to be considered for future roles, we encourage you to submit your interest through the Pipeline to Volunteer Leadership form which stays open all year.

Get to Know Current Volunteer Leaders

LMA's strategic plan is carried out through our Board of Directors, Committees, Shared Interest Groups (SIGs) and Task Forces. Each Committee, SIG or Task Force has co-chairs that usually serve a two-year term. Any LMA member is eligible to serve on a committee.

  • Am I too junior?

    You are never to junior to volunteer with LMA! There are several ways you can volunteer that allow you to find the right fit, no matter how junior or senior.

  • Am I too senior?

    Your knowledge of legal marketing and the years of experience you can bring to LMA is vital. No matter your experience level, there is a role for you as a volunteer with LMA.

  • What is the time commitment?

    The time commitment is dependent on the type of volunteer role you decide to take. You should expect to dedicate anywhere from a few hours per\ week to a few hours per month to LMA activities Although, the time committee can vary throughout the year.

  • Is it okay that I work remotely?

    Yes! Volunteerism can happen right at home.

  • I like to network in person. What's the best role with that in mind?

    LMA offers a variety of in-person events throughout the year!  Our programming committees work together to create various events ranging from Fun Member Socials to Multi-day Conferences. You can help with welcoming guests, developing programs, pre-event communication, and more!    

  • I'm new to LMA. Is that okay?

    Absolutely – We need you!  We love to get new Members involved and sincerely appreciate their fresh perspectives   For Board roles, LMA has various requirements, but we have other ways you can help before you hit your membership and leadership milestones.  The first step is to fill out the LMA Volunteer Pipeline to Leadership.
