LMA Well-Being Wednesday: 3R Model to Processing Anxiety

Sponsored by: Well-Being Committee
Domain: Marketing Management and Leadership
BoK Competencies: Change Management & Department Management and Motivation

Join the Well-Being Committee on November 17 for Well-Being Wednesday! Author, speaker and anxiety coach Wendy Tamis Robbins will share her experience and offer some resources for dealing with stress as we head into a busy holiday season.

According to the Anxiety and Depression Association of America, anxiety disorders are the most common mental illness in the U.S., affecting more than 40 million adults age 18 and older, or 18.1% of the population every year, and only 36% seek treatment. That’s before factoring in the anxiety that has spread during the pandemic.

In this powerful program, Wendy shares her strategies on how to recognize, reduce and refocus your anxiety by:

  • Expanding our self-awareness moving from a fear mindset where we contain or avoid our anxiety to a growth mindset where we identify the thoughts causing anxiety and approach them with curiosity and compassion
  • Implementing strategies, tools and specific meditations to reduce our anxiety now and over the long term
  • Refocusing our anxiety to turn it into our superpower by recognizing triggers as open wounds that need healing, feeling negative emotion rather than fearing it and identifying our resistance as opportunities to build resilience.

Woven throughout is Wendy’s inspirational personal story of transformation -- how she created a box to keep her safe that ultimately became her prison and how she found her way out.

Presenter:
Wendy Tamis Robbins, Senior Consel, Holland & Knight

Wendy is senior counsel in Holland & Knight’s Boston (US) office. She has over 20 years of experience representing syndicators, banks and insurance companies in tax and corporate finance matters that create and preserve affordable housing and provide capital sources to underserved communities. She has also structured and closed a variety of secondary portfolio and syndication platform acquisitions.

Wendy is also an author, speaker and anxiety coach. After living with a variety of anxiety and panic disorders for almost 40 years, she is passionate about helping others reclaim their power and find freedom from whatever is holding them back from living their best life. Her recent book release, “The Box: An Invitation to Freedom from Anxiety,” chronicles her journey to find freedom from her anxiety and teaches how to turn it into your superpower. She also speaks on and advocates for mental health issues and awareness at law firms and a variety of professional organizations.

Her coaching draws from her personal experience while finding common and relatable ground. Her balanced approach utilizes both practical thought and holistic body/mind work, exposure therapy and re-parenting techniques while keeping a sharp focus on the goal — imagining your most beautiful life beyond anxiety, believing it is achievable, deciding you are worthy of it and ultimately manifesting it.

Wendy is a graduate of Dartmouth College and Suffolk University Law School. She lives with her husband and two stepchildren on the North Shore of Massachusetts. She enjoys tennis, traveling, skiing, sailing, cycling, race car driving and writing poetry.
