Developing Operational Metrics: Moving Away From Counting Hours and Rates

Developing Operational Metrics: Moving Away From Counting Hours and Rates

Domain: Business of Law

This session will use a case study approach to outline the reasons why traditional law firm metrics increasingly fall short of demonstrating the value of legal work and its impact on client business. It will then outline strategies for the development, implementation, and monitoring/ analysis of operational metrics that law firms can track in order to deliver and demonstrate additional value to their clients (e.g. cycle time, complexity, outcome, etc.)

Topics include:

  • Understand the shortcomings of traditional law firm metrics and why additional metrics may be required to demonstrate value to clients.
  • Review the process our firms have used to collaboratively develop, implement, and monitor operational metrics with our clients.
  • Gain an understanding of a number of best practices around communicating value to clients using non-traditional, operational metrics.
