Post-Election Debrief and Pre-Holiday Celebration with Sharon McGowan As we gather to process the recent election results, we’re thrilled to host a debrief with Sharon McGowan, an esteemed advocate for justice, equity, and inclusion. This event will not only provide a chance to reflect on what the election means for our communities but also celebrate our shared progress and the strength we find in each other. Join us for an hour of discussion, reflection, and hope as we consider the road ahead, connect with others committed to positive change, and celebrate the power of our community as we head into the holiday season.

Sharon McGowan, Chief Executive Officer is CEO of Public Justice, a nonprofit legal advocacy organization that aims to further equity and equality, end systemic oppression, and protect and expand access to justice for all through impact litigation and strategically aligned advocacy campaigns. Prior to joining Public Justice, Sharon served as a partner with Katz Banks Kumin and Chief Strategy Officer and Legal Director at Lambda Legal, the nation’s oldest and largest LGBTQ+ legal organization. McGowan also held several senior positions within the Obama Administration including Principal Deputy Chief of the U.S. Department of Justice’s Civil Rights Division’s Appellate Section; and Acting General Counsel and Deputy General Counsel for Policy at the U.S. Office of Personnel Management. As a senior federal official, McGowan fought to end discrimination in employment, education, housing, health care, and policing, and helped implement groundbreaking federal initiatives including the Affordable Care Act and nationwide marriage equality. Earlier in her career, McGowan was a Staff Attorney with the LGBT & AIDS Projects of the American Civil Liberties Union, where she served as lead attorney in a landmark Title VII case, Schroer v. Billington, which established new protections for transgender individuals against employment discrimination based on their gender identity and gender transition.
