Kelly MacKinnon
Co-Chief Marketing & Business Development Officer
Gibson Dunn

Kelly MacKinnon is the Co-Chief Marketing & Business Development Officer at Gibson Dunn where she oversees the firm’s marketing and business development efforts globally. Previously, she managed the business development and visibility initiatives at Shearman & Sterling, Fried Frank and held senior positions at Cleary Gottlieb and Paul Weiss. Preceding her legal marketing career, Kelly worked in the broadcast department for the National Hockey League, in marketing at Bon Appétit magazine, and coached women’s ice hockey internationally. Kelly has been an active member of the Legal Marketing Association since 2008, holding various board positions at both the international and local levels. She was the 2021 international president. She received her BA from Brown University in American history and business, and was a four-year Division 1 athlete playing both field hockey and ice hockey. Kelly has been a member of the U.S. Masters Women’s field hockey team since 2018 and has been named to four Masters World Cup teams.

Ana Padovani, Director of Marketing & Business Development at Fross Zelnick Lehrman & Zissu P.C., is a legal marketing veteran who has built a career at the intersection of strategy and practical implementation. Ana serves as a trusted business development and marketing communications advisor to partners and senior leadership and has led multiple firm wide branding and re-branding efforts for New York City-based boutiques, overseen operations for three marketing departments through her signature mix of process improvement, tech innovation, and unimpeachable resource management. Her passion for pushing firms forward to achieve greater success is matched only by her dedication to clear, strong, and supportive leadership and development of her team members.


Bob Robertson

In a career that has spanned more than two decades, Bob Robertson has helped a diverse group of law firms organize, focus and optimize their business development, key client management and marketing efforts. Bob has successfully developed and led sophisticated initiatives aimed at generating new revenue; spearheaded programs focused on strengthening and expanding key client relationships; advanced innovative approaches to winning high stakes proposals and bids; and implemented supporting marketing and communications programs. He has also led efforts to restructure existing business development and marketing functions to enhance their impact, effectiveness, and cost efficiency. Bob espouses a clear, client centric approach and was among the first to articulate business development strategies that position service delivery as a competitive edge - successfully integrating matter management, alternative staffing, pricing and resource sharing into the business development “tool-kit.” His experience includes serving in senior business development and marketing roles at several of the world’s leading law firms, including Greenberg Traurig, Cadwalader, Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer and currently as Chief Marketing Officer at Jackson Lewis. Bob earned his A.B., in Political Science from The University of Chicago.

Moderator Mary K Young brings a track record of corporate strategy and branding success to her work for Zeughauser Group clients. Her practice focuses on the creation of powerful growth plans and brand strategies. In addition, she works extensively with law firms to help them build high-performing business and marketing teams. She frequently serves law firms as an interim chief marketing officer during periods of transition. She is known for insightful analysis, producing tangible results, and leading through collaboration. Earlier in her career, she led large teams as a business director at Kraft Foods and as the Senior VP of a major trade association. She brought that passion to Howrey where she was the chief marketing officer from 2000-2006. She rebuilt the marketing and BD team while she led the firm’s strategic planning initiatives, the integration of a major merger partner, and the firm’s expansion into London, Brussels, Amsterdam, and Paris. Mary K speaks and writes regularly on strategic planning, branding, and performance management. Mary K is a contributor to The American Lawyer and an ALM Intelligence Fellow. She holds an M.B.A. from the Anderson School of Management at UCLA and an A.B. from Vassar College.
