Volunteer Opportunities

Help Advance LMA as a Volunteer Leader

Work side by side with fellow Legal Marketing Association (LMA) members to make a difference locally, internationally or in a focus area you are passionate about. Among influential peers, there are so many ways to get involved and expand your leadership experience and network, such as:

  • 40 local steering committees;
  • 12 international committees;
  • 10 Shared Interest Groups (SIGs);
  • 7 regional governing boards;
  • 3 international task forces;
  • LMA Board of Directors; and
  • countless event-focused opportunities.

Pathways to Leadership

Interested in a volunteer leadership role with LMA? There are several levels at which you can serve. If you’re looking into the pathway toward taking a leadership role within LMA but don’t know where to start, review the following materials:

International Board

The International Board of Directors, through the Nominating Committee, has begun its annual process of determining the slate of candidates to fill open seats on the 2022 board. After a diligent and thorough process over the next few months, LMA members will ratify the International Board slate in August 2021, and our new board members will begin their service in January 2022.

Eligible members can submit their interest in serving on the International Board of Directors by nominating themselves to be included on the slate or submitting a referral candidate in the referral section to our expression of interest survey. If there is an individual you feel would be well suited for any of the open LMA Board of Directors positions that you would like to refer, please provide their information in the survey. LMA Staff will follow up with this individual, letting them know they have been suggested to submit and your referral will remain anonymous.

LMA seeks to fill the following voting International Board positions:

  • President-Elect (3-years: President-Elect in 2022, President in 2023, Immediate Past-President in 2024)
  • Treasurer-Elect (2-years: Treasurer-Elect in 2022, Treasurer in 2023)
  • 3 At-Large Board Members (2-years: January 1, 2022 – December 31, 2023)
  • Regional Leaders’ Committee (“RLC”) Chair (1-year: January 1, 2022 – December 31, 2022)

Next Steps

Expressions of Interest for International Board positions closed on Tuesday, May 4.

Once the Expression of Interest closes, the Nominating Committee will verify eligibility, interview candidates and references, and put forth a slate for ratification by the membership.

If you have questions, please see the FAQ document or contact Nominating Committee Chair and Immediate Past President Jill Huse, or Operations Manager Ashley Stenger.

Become a Volunteer Leader

Ideal volunteers are those willing and able to step outside their own individual experiences to consider what’s best for the LMA as a whole. If you are unsure where you fit in, please review our core qualities of great volunteer leaders. All volunteers must be LMA members in good standing in order to serve.

2022 volunteer opportunities will open Fall 2021

*Some committees are filled by appointment and will not be listed when the call for volunteers opens.
