Jennifer’s words…

Jennifer is the Director of Marketing at Brennan Manna Diamond

It’s going to take time, patience and care to fill us all back up again. Let’s continue to normalize talking about how we are really doing, and feel comfortable leaning on each other for support.”

Jennifer, a much-loved and respected Ohio member, was recently featured in another Midwest member’s article: Kate Harry Shipham of KHS People (the whole article can be viewed here).

Put simply, Jennifer was asked to contribute to an article on the importance of continuing the conversation around mental health. Kate’s article featured the month of May as “Mental Health Awareness Month” and asked several respected marketers for their thoughts. As noted by Kate, Jennifer raises the ever-important piece of this conversation, which is, we just don’t have this conversation enough. And, even if we do, there’s no quick fix or immediate solution:

“A comedian and mom posted to social media this week: ‘We are all hanging on by a thread, right?’ The comments section was full of confirmations. The consensus: we don’t talk about this enough.

Just because we see the light at the end of the tunnel does not mean that we can flip a switch and we’ll all be ok again.

The last year and a half took a lot out of everyone, no matter your situation or circumstances. Yes, even people who seem to have it all together. It’s going to take time, patience and care to fill us all back up again. Let’s continue to normalize talking about how we are really doing, and feel comfortable leaning on each other for support.”

One of the most pertinent things out of Jennifer’s sentiment is this:

Yes, even people who seem to have it all together...

For many of us, too much focus is put on what others think. Then, to make matters worse, the (often incorrect) assumption that everyone else is doing better than you. This past year has taught us how flawed – and damaging – that line of thinking can be. It’s also taught us to give ourselves time and grace in our everyday lives. And, to share often.

Thank you Jennifer. Our members will be inspired by this!
