The LMA Midwest COVID Cocktail of Choice!

The “Stimulus Package” by John Reed

  • In a tall glass, pour one shot of Jack Daniels Old No. 7 over ice
  • Add your favorite local artisan hard apple cider (John also recommends Angry Orchard, too)
  • Garnish with an apple slice and cinnamon stick

John acknowledges that while this has a fall / winter feel to it, none of us really know which day, month or season it is anyway!! (So true, John…)

The “Parent Pleaser” by Kate Harry Shipham

  • 1 1/2 oz dark rum (Mt Gay works really well)
  • 1/2 oz Campari
  • 1 1/2 oz pineapple juice
  • 1/2 oz lime juice
  • 1/2 oz simple syrup

In a cocktail shaker, add all the ingredients with a lot of ice. Shake until you get a light and foamy texture, and then pour over ice and top with an orange peel or a small pineapple wedge. (Ensure your little ones are tucked into bed beforehand…)

The “New Normal” Margarita by John Byrne

In this new normal, John has found something just right; he says this take on the classic recipe is “not too sweet and not too strong”.

  • 1 1/2 ounces gold tequila (John says that gold tequila is the key in this classic!)
  • 1 1/2 ounces Grand Marnier (Cointreau also works well)
  • 1 1/2 ounces fresh lime juice
  • 1 1/2 ounces simple syrup
  • Lime wedge for garnish
  • Kosher salt for rim (optional)

Run the lime wedge around the glass rim so the salt will stick, then turn the glass upside down to coat the edges in the salt. Fill the glass with ice. In a cocktail shaker, add the tequila, Grand Marnier, lime juice and simple syrup and lots of ice and shake vigorously. Poor over the ice and enjoy!

The “Cactus Berry” by Ashley Defay

  • Lime wedge, coarse salt
  • 1 1/4 oz Blanco tequila
  • 1 1/4 oz Red wine
  • 1/2 oz Triple Sec
  • 1/2 oz Simple Syrup
  • 1/4 oz Fresh lemon juice
  • 1/4 oz Fresh Lime Juice
  • 1 Splash Lemon-lime soda

On a chilled cocktail glass put lime and salt on edges to your liking. Shake the remaining ingredients with ice in a cocktail shaker and pour.

The “Blue Quarantine” Margarita by Jordan Navarro

  • Handful of fresh blueberries
  • Juice from 1 lime
  • 2 oz tequila (Jordan uses Casamigos Blanco)
  • 1 oz Cointreau
  • Dash of simple syrup
  • Ice

Muddle the blueberries, add the rest of the ingredients and shake. Strain into a glass with ice and top off with a few additional blueberries or lime, and enjoy!
